SuperStar Study Skills Classes: Grades 6-8 and Grades 9-12
In this two class series, students learn strategies for remembering and interpreting information, taking and studying notes, and using reference sources. Test preparation skills and test taking strategies are addressed including ways to deal with test taking anxiety. Effective basic techniques are covered for reading textbooks and other materials.
Students learn ways to effectively organize materials, time and space for more productive study. Assistance is given in goal-setting, tracking grades and helping students learn to recognize their achievements. Strategies are presented for interacting with teachers and asking questions in class to clarify information.

The Friendship Club helps children refine social skills and learn ways to develop social confidence with peers. Participants learn how to make good choices in friendships and how to handle difficult social situations with other children.
The focus is on effective communication and conflict resolution skills helpful in managing relationships with adults and peers. Children learn how to express feelings and discussion with others. Self-monitoring strategies and appropriate ways to express and manage anger and frustration are addressed. Students learn decision-making strategies and a five step process effective in making wise, responsible choices in relationships, school and home. |

The focus of this three class series is on fostering wise decision making and responsible behavior in children of all ages so they will be ready to deal with life's challenges. Participants learn parenting methods that teach children to make wise choices and help them develop self-confidence.
The classes address effective encouragement and positive reinforcement techniques and the choices/consequences/reward approach to discipline. Strategies are presented for dealing with problematic behavior and managing anger and rage in children. Parenting techniques effective in dealing with behaviors specific to ADD/ADHD, pediatric bipolor disorder and other special conditions are addressed. Each parent is assisted in the development of a plan specific to the needs of their child.
